Samoyed Breed Critique
Ch Vandreem Imperial Hermioni by Berezniki, Most striking bitch of lovely type and overall balance, impressive head and expression from well set dark eyes and nicely set ears, head proudly carried on a nicely arched neck, back of good length, chest deep and sound loins, well boned front with very good shoulder/upper arm angulations and muscular hind quarters giving the desired reach and driving action, first class show girl, handled and presented to perfection, she never put a foot wrong in the breed ring, CC in best of breed, I was delighted later in the day when she looked a picture when winning the group and more so on the final day to take reserve best in show, a true ambassador for the breed.

Pastoral Group Critique
I must admit to approaching this group with some trepidation, as so many best of breeds can be quite unsound and poor in type. I needn’t have worried the Crufts breed judges came up trumps and sent through some wonderful dogs! I could well have pulled out another three or so as the quality was exceptionally high. It really gave me a buzz to have a nice choice of dogs to work with. So this left me with four beauties. Fourth was a truly great Pyrenean, third an amazing Cardigan Corgi, group two went to another top quality Australian Sheppard.
So it had to be something really outstanding to top this line up (and she was). The Samoyed Bitch, Champion Vandreem Imperial Hermioni by Berezniki, really is something special, her head is perfection, with super black pigment, she actually has a correct front under the wealth of coat which is often lacking, she was so good to handle right through. As Claire Coxall was to say later: “All the bones were in the right place”, not overdone in angulation which helps give the ideal length of stride and absolutely true both ways, in beautiful sparkling coat and like the Aussie can never stand wrong. Her performance, standing and moving was quite outstanding and she showed off this and her personality, both in the group and later in the BIS. I was very proud of her, a great group to judge.

Best in Show, Crufts 2008 critique.
Having won best in show at Crufts myself, I was all too aware that the best in show judge changes the winning exhibitors life and their dogs status forever. This is a huge responsibility and therefore was one that I was determined to get right. One in a lifetime does a judge of dogs get ultimate accolade, the best thing that can ever come their way, and that is of course the invitation to judge best in show at Crufts. After a lifetime in dogs, I was naturally honored by the recognition that t he kennel club and Crufts committee afforded me.
Seven group winning dogs were presented to me after thoroughly going over all seven and gating them, studying action, out and back and in profile I felt that two stood away being totally correct for their breed in construction, balance, body, condition and movement and having that rare quality and charisma that I want in my great show dogs and I really thank the group judges for sending me the Giant Schnauzer and Samoyed.
The Samoyed bitch is glorious, and as feminine as the Giant is masculine, however she is still relatively young where the giant is at his mature best. Her head and expression and copybook, my hands told me she was so well put together which must have been clear to the ring side as she never stood wrongly. Every time I looked at her she was perfect and again her presentation was flawless and she simply shone.
